Letters are read Tuesday to Friday between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm Eastern. A reply comes on a reading day rather than the same hour, and a question that needs a plat book pulled takes longer than one that does not.

What this desk can answer

Which document a statement rests on. Where a record is held and what it is called, so a reader can go and read it. Whether a date on this site is the fixing of a name or the standing account of one. Whether a name not in the catalogue belongs to one of the five layers, and which.

The most welcome letter of all is one that closes a gap: a plat, an ordinance, a company record. Five of the ten entries print something this register could not establish, and corrections explains what happens when somebody supplies it.

The letter this desk cannot answer

"Where should I go, stay or eat."

Not from unhelpfulness. This publication has no view on any of it, names no business anywhere, and would be a poor source if it did: it records where names came from, and that tells a reader nothing about whether a restaurant is any good.

A letter of that kind gets a courteous reply pointing at arriving, which is the only practical page here, and nothing further.

Four fields: who is writing, an address to reply to, a subject, and the letter.

There is no field on this site for a date of travel, a destination, a party size or a budget, on this page or any other. This is a letter box for correspondence about names. What it does not ask for is the clearest statement of what this publication is and is not.

What is typed into it goes to the editorial address by way of a form relay and nowhere else. The privacy policy says what happens to a letter and how long it is kept, and there is no mailing list here to be added to.

If you are writing about the fare search

That is a different desk and not this one. The lookup on its own page is run by an outside booking service, and any booking, payment, ticket or refund belongs to that service under its own terms. Rowan Logbook LLC is not a party to it and cannot intervene in it, so a letter here about a booking can only be answered by saying so.
