Reading a page here

There is no account on this site, so there is nothing to sign into and no profile behind it. Pages are plain files. They carry no analytics script, no advertising script, no social button, no embedded video and no font from anybody else's server. The three typefaces, the images, the stylesheet and the two scripts are all served from this domain.

The company hosting the files keeps ordinary short-lived server records, as every host does: the address a request came from, the page asked for, the time, and the browser's own description of itself. Rowan Logbook LLC does not receive those as a report, does not join them to anything, and does not use them to recognize a returning reader.

The one item stored in a browser

One, and only after a reader answers the card about it. The card sits in the page just above the footer rather than over the text, so answering it makes the page shorter instead of uncovering something. The item records that the card was answered, holds no identifier, and goes when a reader clears site data. The storage page prints the whole list, which is one row long.

Nothing else is written to a browser by this site: no advertising identifier, no cross-site identifier, no pixel.

The letter form

Four fields: who is writing, an address to reply to, a subject and the letter.

What it does not ask for is the point of it. There is no field anywhere on this site for a destination, a date of travel, a party size or a budget, because this publication does not arrange travel and would have nothing to do with the answer.

A letter is relayed by a third party form service to the editorial address and is not kept by that service for its own purposes. Letters are read on posted days, Tuesday to Friday, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm Eastern. A letter and its reply are kept while the correspondence is open and for a reasonable period after, then deleted. Letters are never sold, rented, traded, or used to send anything a reader did not ask for. There is no mailing list here, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.

The fare lookup

This is the one place where information leaves the domain. When a reader submits the form on the fare search, the departure, destination, dates, class of service and passenger counts go to a booking service that operates on a subdomain of this site. That service has its own privacy notice, sets its own storage, and is not controlled by Rowan Logbook LLC.

Nothing typed into the letter form and nothing about which pages were read goes with a search.

Children

This register is written for adults and holds nothing aimed at children. Rowan Logbook LLC does not knowingly collect information from a child under thirteen. A letter that appears to have come from a child is deleted rather than answered.

Asking what is held

Because there is no account and no profile, the honest answer is usually "a letter, if you sent one, and nothing else". A reader who wants that letter deleted can ask, and it is deleted; a reader who wants a copy can ask, and it is sent. Local law where a reader lives may give stronger rights than the paragraph above describes. Rowan Logbook LLC does not argue with them and does not require anybody to prove residency before answering a plain request.

What this page does not claim

It does not claim the host, the form relay or the booking service behave as described, because they are not this publication and their conduct is theirs. They are named so a reader can go and read what they say. It does not claim server records are untraceable, only that Rowan Logbook LLC neither receives nor uses them that way.

If this page is wrong

Corrections applies to the paperwork as much as to the register. A change that reduces what a reader gets will be described with a date rather than made quietly.
