How This Is Paid For

The whole arrangement

Rowan Logbook LLC may be paid a commission by a booking service when a reader looks up a fare on the fare search and goes on to book through that service. That is the entire commercial arrangement.

No reader pays anything. No airline, airport, booking platform, hotel, restaurant, preservation society, historical commission, museum or public body pays anything, and none has been asked. Nothing on any editorial page is sponsored, and nothing has been written, softened or left out because of what it might do to a commission.

Why the form is alone on its own page

Because a form beside an editorial paragraph turns the paragraph into a lead-in, and the ten entries in this register are not lead-ins to anything.

So: no editorial page carries a form, a price, a button or a recommendation. Arriving, which is the one practical page and the obvious place a normal site would put a search box, deliberately does not have one. A reader can verify all of that by looking, which is the only kind of assurance worth giving.

The conflict, named rather than buried

Here is the awkward part, and it belongs on the page rather than in a footnote.

This publication earns money when somebody buys a flight. It also tells readers, at length, that this city is enormous, that two entries in its own catalogue are twenty five miles apart, and that most of the districts described are ordinary residential ground with nothing to see. None of that is written to sell a trip, and somebody could reasonably ask whether the first fact shades the second.

Three things answer it, all checkable on the site:

• The commission arrives at the moment of a booking and depends on nothing afterwards. Whether a reader enjoys the trip, or takes it at all, the payment is identical. There is no version of a better or worse visit that pays this publication differently.
• No page recommends anything. Not a hotel, not a district, not a season, not a length of stay. There is nothing here for a commission to be steering.
• No business is named anywhere on this site. Not one, on any page, including the entry for the street where naming a tenant would have been easiest. That is a rule, and the verifier enforces it.

What is not here, and will not be

No banner advertising, no advertising network, no sponsored entry, no paid link inside a paragraph, no affiliate link buried in editorial text, no advertorial, no newsletter to sell, no reader list to sell in the first place. No subscription, no membership, no paywall, no donation button.

Should any of that ever change, it will be described here with a date and disclosed beside the thing itself rather than on this page alone.

Who owns this

Rowan Logbook LLC is a private company formed in Florida and registered with the Florida Department of State, Division of Corporations. It has no investor from the travel industry, no parent company, and it publishes this one site and nothing else. Its records are on about.

If this page is wrong

Then it is the most important error on the site, and corrections is how it gets fixed. A reader who believes an entry has been bent by the arrangement described above should say so and name the entry: that is the letter this publication most wants to receive, because it is the one that would matter most if it were true.
